PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eco-run control device capable of preventing a vehicle from transferring to an economical running state without performing a failure inspection for a starter drive circuit and less consuming electric power. SOLUTION: When an economical running control program is started, first it is determined whether predetermined requirements for engine stop are established or not based on the states of the vehicle excluding an idle state. When it is determined hat the determined requirements for engine stop are established, failure detection is performed for transistors in a starter relay circuit (steps 101, 102). Next, it is determined whether a transistor circuit is normal or not based on the results of the failure detection. When the circuit is defective, an economical running is prohibited (steps 103, 104). Furthermore, when the circuit is normal, the economical running control is allowed when a vehicle speed is zero and an engine is running at idle (steps 105, 106, 107). COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
