Numerous elongated segments (2) parallel to each other inside a spliced length (1) of fabric can be moved vertical to their longitudinal stretch in a plane by means of an operating device (3) so that the spliced length of fabric is converted into a circular-shaped profile. An independent claim is also included for a method for altering the profile of a spliced length of fabric, e.g. rubber coated cord for producing a tire carcass insert for a vehicle's pneumatic tire.
