A method and apparatus is provided for processing halftone images by generating a first dot pattern corresponding to a first colour and a second dot pattern corresponding to a second colour for a video signal having at least two colours. The method includes generating the first dot pattern by halftone processing the video signal using a first screen (52), and generating the second dot pattern by halftone processing the video signal using a second screen (54), which has a complementary relationship relative to the first screen (52).
