An LCD is provided to prevent the generation of etching residue after etching process of forming a pixel electrode and suppress the abnormal growth of a protective insulating layer, by forming the pixel electrode to include an oxide compound containing In and Zn. A first substrate(1) has a thin film transistor formed thereon. A second substrate(16) faces the first substrate, and has a counter electrode(15) formed thereon. A liquid crystal(20) is sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate. A pixel electrode(10) is connected to a drain electrode(7) of the thin film transistor. A protective insulating layer(13) covers the pixel electrode, wherein the protective insulating layer has a transparency. The pixel electrode includes an oxide compound containing In and Zn.
