A radiation burner includes a pot 2 configured to burn gas, a mat 3 provided on the pot, and a housing 5 provided on the mat. The mat is heated by combustion products such that it radiates thermal energy. The housing has an opening 5a to allow the radiated thermal energy to pass through, and also includes a barrier 7 to suppress the exhaust flow of combustion products. The burner also includes a support structure 6 on the housing that allows an object to be supported for heating, and a gasket 4 may be included between the mat and the housing to prevent a flame of the burnt gas from reaching the housing. The barrier may have a dual structure comprising a first portion 7a and a second portion 7b, the first and second portions being separated for a predetermined distance by a third portion 7c. The second portion may additionally include perforations 7d which allow the burnt gas to pass through the barrier. The passage of burnt gasses causes heating of the barrier and provides additional radiated heat energy. Additionally the burner arrangement includes an insulating member (8 fig 5), and together, the barrier and thermal insulation increase the thermal efficiency of the design. |
