Provided is a fuel cell system, which supplies fuel in a passive supply manner, has a small size, a high system efficiency, and a high energy density, and is usable as a power source for portable electronic devices. The fuel cell system comprises (a) a membrane-electrode assembly(10) including a cathode, a proton conducting membrane, and an anode, (b) a buffer solution layer(21) which faces the anode and in which water generated from the cathode coexists with fuel vapor; (c) the first separator(30) facing the buffer solution layer(21); and (d) a fuel storage layer(41) that faces the first separator(30). |
