Provided are an ammonium-based nanoclay, and a thermoplastic resin nanocomposite containing the nanoclay which is excellent in thermal stability and heat resistance. The ammonium-based nanoclay comprises a clay treated with an imide-styrene-based copolymer represented by the formula 1 as an organic modifier, wherein a is an integer of 1-5; b, c and d are an integer of 0-3; l and m are an integer of 5-100; n is an integer of 1-5; R is H or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group comprising a methyl group, an ethyl group, an n-propyl group, an isopropyl group, an n-butyl group, a sec-butyl group or a cyclohexyl group; and X is a halogen ion. The thermoplastic resin nanocomposite comprises 0.5-30 parts by weight of the ammonium-based nanoclay; and 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin.
