An assembly sorts refuse by ballistic action. The assembly has a crankshaft (2) driving an array of elongated perforated (13) separator conveyer strips (4). Each crankshaft section also bears a fixed interchangeable cam plate. The cam disc has an outer profile that is partly polygonal and inner profiled hole that fits the crankshaft.
