A method of providing a multiple filtration arrangement for a floor care appliance 100 consists of the steps of; removing a dirt container 550 from the appliance housing; inserting a filter member 581 and a filtration bag 612 into the dirt container 550; and, replacing the dirt container 550 in the cleaner housing 224 interposed in the dirt laden air stream. The dirt container 550 may be provided with a lid. The filtration bag 612 may or may not be disposable and may or may not have a HEPA rating.
