The food supplement consists of alpha-linolenic acid or one of its derivatives dispersed or dissolved in a comestible oil preparation at a rate of at least 1 g of alpha-linolenic acid per 10 ml of the comestible oil, and preferably 1 g per 5 ml. The alpha-linolenic acid can be added to the oil preparation as it is, in the form of a tocopheryl alpha-linolenate, or in the form of an oil rich in alpha-linolenic acid, i.e. containing at least 20 per cent alpha-linolenic acid, such as linseed oil, oil of cameline (false flax or gold-of-pleasure), kiwi seed oil or hemp seed oil, added to a traditional culinary oil such as olive oil, rapeseed oil, soya oil, fruit seed or nut oils. The supplement can also contain a gelling agent, an emulsifying agent, a flavouring or a solid dispersant such as a fat, and it can be made into micro-granules or gelatine micro-capsules. |
