An external pressure journal bearing with variable air supply holes is provided to increase the maximum rotary velocity of the rotary body-bearing system and improve the vibration property of the rotary body according as the journal bearing has at least one row. In an external pressure journal bearing comprising a rotary body-bearing system, the diameter of an air supply hole supplying the lubricant between the bearings is circumferentially formed to have more than two different sizes. The ratio of the diameter of the largest air supply hole and the diameter of the smallest air supply hole for the diameter of more than two other fine air supply holes is 2:1. The journal bearing has one row or plural rows for the axial direction of the bearing. |
