A chuck for use in refacing valves comprises jaws 13 bonded to a mass 14 of rubber, or other non-metallic flexible material, the tapered outer edges of the jaws fitting a cone 15 of a pulley-driven rotary spindle 10. The jaws and rubber &c. form a collet which is closed on the work by a rearward pull on the jaw-ends by flexible fingers 25 of an operator 20, Fig. 3. The fingers have openings 27 at their free ends which engage over the rear jaw projections 28, and extend from a tubular part 26 which is moved by screw and nut gear 21, Fig. 2. In a modification the flexible fingers are provided with long slots which fit over the chuck jaws and engage the latter at the front end. Specifications 584,258 and 617,964 are referred to. |
