An unmanned camera system operating in response to a dog's barking and a method of operating the camera are provided to operate the unmanned camera when a dog barks because of an intruder to photograph and record the image of the intruder. An unmanned camera system includes a sound sensor(10), a micro-controller(20), a signal receiver(40), a power controller(50), and a recording controller(60). The sound sensor is attached to a dog and senses the bark of the dog. The micro-controller transmits an operating signal through a signal transmitter(30) when the sound sensed by the sensor exceeds a predetermined decibel. The signal receiver receives the operating signal transmitted from the signal transmitter. The power controller is operated by the signal received by the signal receiver and controls the supply of power to an unmanned camera and a recorder installed in a house. The recording controller records an image captured by the unmanned camera in the recorder for a predetermined time.
