A power controller and a method for controlling power of a display device having the same are provided to divide a plurality of display devices into a main display device generating a power control signal and sub display devices receiving the power control signal to control their power to allow the main display device to control the power of the sub display devices connected to the main display devices. A power controller(10) includes an image signal receiving unit(100), a power control signal extracting unit(102), and a controller(104). The image signal receiving unit receives an image signal through a plurality of video modes. The power control signal extracting unit extracts a power control signal from the image signal. The controller controls a power supply(106) for supplying power to a display device in response to the power control signal extracted by the power control signal extracting unit or includes a power control signal generated by a power control command in an image signal and transmits the image signal through an image signal output unit(108).
