An automatic sound muting method using a sound carrier is provided to block a sound signal from being output from a TV receiver when a synchronization signal of a video carrier is not detected from a received broadcasting signal or any one of a main sound carrier and a sub sound carrier is not detected to prevent noise from being output from the TV receiver. An automatic sound muting method includes a step of receiving a PAL broadcasting signal, a step of determining whether a synchronization signal of a sound carrier is detected from the received broadcasting signal when a synchronization signal of a video carrier is detected from the received broadcasting signal(S30), and a step of blocking a sound from being output from a TV receiver when there is no sound carrier(S20).
