An apparatus for transmitting a Morse code in a camera phone and a method thereof are provided to rescue a user in an emergency state by enabling the user, not familiar with the Morse code, to transmit the Morse code to others. An apparatus for transmitting a Morse code in a camera phone comprises a keypad(1), an input buffer(2), a controller(3), a text/Morse code converter(4), a timer(5), a memory(6) and a flash driver(7). The keypad(1) enables a user to input a short message. The input buffer(2) buffers the short message outputted by the keypad(1), and forwards the short message to the controller(3). The controller(3) forwards the short message, inputted via the input buffer(2), to the text/Morse code converter(4), receives the converted Morse code from the text/Morse code converter(4), and controls the flash driver(7) correspondingly to the Morse code. The text/Morse code converter(4) converts the short message, inputted via the controller(3), into the Morse code. The timer(5) offers timing information needed when the controller(3) controls the flash driver(7). The memory(5) receives a message of the Morse codes from the controller(3) and stores the message. The flash driver(6) transmits the Morse codes via light by flickering the flash according to a control operation of the controller(3).
