VIDEO SCALER HAVING MINIMUM OUTPUT MEMORY AND METHOD FOR SELECTING THE SAME

A video scaler with an output memory of minimum size and a method of selecting the size of the output memory are provided to stably operate the video scaler while minimizing the size of an output memory of the video scaler. A video scaler includes a scaler core(131) and an output memory(132). The scaler core scales up/down an input video signal to make the size of an image corresponding to the input video signal correspond to the output image size. The output memory stores the video signal output from the scaler core. The size of the output memory is selected such that a write time required to completely fill the output memory with data has a minimum value greater than the difference between a scaling time required for the scaler core to scale video signals with respect to input horizontal pixels and a read time required to read the video signals with respect to the input horizontal pixels from the output memory.
