A solid-state imaging device, a camera using the solid-state image sensing device, and a method of driving the solid-state imaging device are provided to achieve rapid image pickup without increasing a driving frequency while the center of an image pickup region corresponds to the optical center. A solid-state imaging device includes a plurality of sensors(11) arranged in a matrix to perform photo-electric conversion, a reading unit(12) for reading signal charges obtained through the photo-electric conversion of the plurality of sensors, and vertical transfer units(13) for vertically transferring the signal charges read from the sensors. The solid-state imaging device further includes a horizontal transfer unit(15) for horizontally transferring the signal charges transferred from the vertical transfer units, and a transfer controller(16) for preventing the transfer of the signal charges from the vertical transfer units to the horizontal transfer unit in a region in the horizontal direction.
