FIELD: water treatment processes. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of treating drinking water with hydrogen peroxide, whose activity is enhanced by adding heterogeneous catalysts, and can be used to disinfect drinking water. Method according to invention is characterized by that catalyst is further added, which is prepared by (i) mixing pulverized hopcalite containing 60% magnesium dioxide and 40% copper oxide with powder of oxide selected from group consisting of zinc oxide, ferric oxide, and cobaltic oxide at hopcalite-to-metal oxide weight ratio (on conversion to metal ion) (5-10):1; adding bentonite clay in amount 10% based on the weight of hopcalite/metal oxide mixture; and (iii) subsequently moistening material to pasty state, partially drying it, and molding it into pellets or granules. Advantages obtained by using the invention: (1) enhancement of bactericidal activity of hydrogen peroxide due to introduced hopcalite-based heterogeneous catalyst modified by accessible and relatively inexpensive additives and (2) prevention of secondary bacterial contamination of water over a long (no less than one month) period of time. ^ EFFECT: simplified water disinfection process and catalyst preparation technology, and inhibited secondary bacterial contamination of water. ^ 1 tbl, 5 ex |
