An electric power steering system, comprising an electric motor (6) generating a steering auxiliary force, a torque sensor (3) detecting a steering torque, a means (10) generating the target control value of the electric motor (6) according to the detected steering torque, and a means (28) performing the noninterferential control of the electric motor. The system further comprises a filter (12) acting in a process for generating the target control value of the electric motor by the steering torque. The filter (12) further comprises a phase compensator (13) lowering the gain of a resonance peak in the system and an LPF (12) lowering a second peak in a frequency higher than the resonance peak. The characteristics of the system are not impaired even if the noninterferential control for providing follow-up capability is performed.
