A method for preparing a catalyst for partial oxidation of methylbenzenes, which can prepare corresponding aromatic aldehydes from methylbenzenes at high selectivity even in a wide range of conversion ratio region, is provided. In a method for preparing a catalyst for partial oxidation of methylbenzenes with a formula of WOx, wherein W represents tungsten atom, O represents oxygen atom, and x is a value determined by the oxidation state of W, the method comprises the steps of: (a) preparing a solution or slurry of a tungsten-containing compound; (b) supporting the solution or slurry onto an inorganic support; (c) drying a catalyst obtained in the step(b); and (c) calcining a catalyst dried in the step(c), wherein a volume ratio of pores of the inorganic support to the solution or slurry is 1:0.9 to 1.1 in the step(b).
