PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder of high magnetic characteristic capable of preventing cracks from being generated in a magnet part even in a severe using condition such as an abrupt temperature change, and having high reliability to detect precisely a rotation speed, and a rolling bearing unit of high performance and high reliability equipped with the magnetic encoder. SOLUTION: This magnetic encoder is integrally joined with the magnet part formed annularly with a magnetic material containing magnetic material powder and a binder containing at least a polyphenylene sulfide resin and an impact-resistant improver, and a slinger comprising a magnetic material, and this rolling bearing unit is provided with a fixed ring, a rotating ring, and a plurality of rollers arranged to roll circumferential-directionally between the fixed ring and the rotating ring, and having the magnetic encoder fixed onto the rotating ring.
