PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low densifying agent for paper which reduces the density of the paper, capable of easily producing the paper excellent in low density, opacity, whiteness with reduced elongation in water absorbing state and a method for producing the low density paper by using the low densifying agent for paper. SOLUTION: The low densifying agent comprises a polyamide compound or salt thereof obtained by amidation of a polyamine with a polycarboxylic acid or a polycarboxylic acid anhydride with a 12-36C fatty acid.
