PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selectively hydrogenating an olefinic double bond existing in an unsaturated (co)polymer. SOLUTION: The method comprising (a) a process of preparing a hydrocarbon solution, optionally containing (C) a modifier, of a (co)polymer to be hydrogenated and (b) a process of adding an in-situ formed catalyst solution to the above (co)polymer solution in a hydrogen atmosphere, is characterized in that the above catalyst contains (b1) at least one kind of a bis-(cyclopentadienyl)titanium derivative which has a general formula (I): (C<SB>5</SB>H<SB>5</SB>)<SB>2</SB>Ti(R)(R<SB>1</SB>) and which is dispersed in one or more kinds of nonsolvent-based diluents, (b2) at least one kind of an organic derivative having general formula (II): M(R<SB>2</SB>)(R<SB>3</SB>) (wherein, M is selected from zinc and magnesium) and (b3) at least one kind of (C) a modifier and in that the above selective hydrogenation is carried out in a hydrogen atmosphere.
