PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound capable of forming a switching mechanism in nano scale and useful for base and progress of developing high density wiring and highly integrated circuits. SOLUTION: The modified nucleic acid chain compound has a nucleic acid part capable of forming a dimer in the absence of a metal ion of bivalence or more valence and capable of forming a trimeric or larger multimer in the presence of a metal ion of bivalence or more valence, at the both ends of a part capable of interacting with the ion of bivalence or more valence.
