An apparatus for preventing rotation of water of a drum type washing machine is provided to perform drying smoothly and lengthen the life span of the machine by placing the sensing plate and the potentiometer and preventing the overload from occurring at the driving apparatus. An apparatus for preventing rotation of water of a drum type washing machine is composed of: a cabinet whose front is opened and installed with a door; a tub(52) having a predetermined space and storing the washing water; a drum(54) rotatably installed in the tub and formed with plural holes to dip the laundry; a driving apparatus installed at the tub; a sensing plate(60) rotatably installed between the tub and the drum and contacted with the water if the water is rotated along with the drum to be rotated; a potentiometer mounted at a rotary shaft(62) of the sensing plate to transmit an electric signal if the sensing plate is rotated over the reference value; and a control unit for stopping the driving apparatus according to the signal received at the potentiometer. The tub is formed with a mounting part(56) bent to the outside.
