<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an apparatus compact and to improve insulation between members in which the apparatus is attached in a light emitting device and a lighting apparatus equipped with this light emitting device. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting device 1 includes a plate 31 in which a printed circuit board 2 is laid, and a side wall 32 stood by the edge of the plate 31 so that the side of this laid printed circuit board 2 may be covered and which contains the printed circuit board 2. Further, the device has an insulating printed circuit board receptacle member 3, and an insulating cover member 4 arranged so that the front of the printed circuit board 2 may be covered and having an aperture 40 for emitting a light. The back surface and the side of the printed circuit board 2 are covered by the printed circuit board receptacle member 3. Consequently, the conductive part of a clamping surface 6 and the creeping distance L1 of the conductive part of the printed circuit board 2 can be lengthened, and even if a space distance L2 is short, it can raise the insulation of the printed circuit board 2.
