PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device not requiring inputting the number of sheets of printing media when the printing media are newly set on a paper feeding stage. SOLUTION: The paper feeding device 200 is provided with at least two paper feeding stages 210; a movement mechanism 230 for moving the printing media between the respective paper feeding stages; a paper feeding mechanism 220 for feeding the printing media designated from the respective paper feeding stages; and a control means 115 for controlling the movement mechanism and the paper feeding mechanism. The respective paper feeding stages can store a plurality of kinds of printing media and the control means 115 is provided with a memory means 115a for memorizing the number of storage and the storage position in every kind of printing media stored in the respective paper feeding stages. When the printing media are newly set on any one of paper feeding stages, the control means 115 moves all printing media stored in the paper feeding stage to another paper feeding stage by the movement mechanism, the number of movement is counted and the number of sheets of the newly set printing media is obtained.
