POSITION DETECTING SENSOR AND PRINTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a recording medium from being caught by a position detecting sensor and thereby to smoothly carry the recording medium. SOLUTION: Each position detecting sensor 15 has a light-emitting element 16 emitting light for detection, a light-receiving element 17 for receiving the light for detection, and a light path restriction body 18 covering a part of the light-emitting element 16 and a part of the light-receiving element 17 to restrict the light path of the light. The light-path restriction body 18 has: a side face covering wall 19 covering a side face of the light-emitting element 16 and a side face of the light-receiving element 17; and a tip covering wall 20 covering a tip part of the light-emitting element 16 and a tip part of the light-receiving element 17 and disposed at a position opposed to a carrying passage 4.
