The method involves exciting load or motor (M) by a microcontroller (muC), and detecting switching state of the load in an active manner. A diagnosis is made independent of a time of the active excitation of the load by the microcontroller and/or by a control unit of higher level. A return of diagnosis is transmitted to an interrupt entry (IRQ) of the microcontroller. An Independent claim is also included for a device to increase functioning safety of an electronic component in a switching circuit that is utilized in a motor vehicle for exciting and controlling motors of a centralized locking device.
