<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To notify a video signal supply destination about a change in aspect ratio of the video signal without transmitting useless information. <P>SOLUTION: In step S1, a converting section starts the processing of converting a video signal into a component signal of an HDMI format and outputting the video signal to an aspect ratio recording section. In step S2, an aspect ratio detecting section starts processing of detecting an aspect ratio of the video signal and outputting the detected aspect ratio to an aspect ration recording section. The aspect ratio recording section records the aspect ratio of the video signal input from the aspect ratio detecting section on a predetermined position of the video signal of the HDMI format, and outputs the aspect ratio to the post stage.
