PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fixing characteristic by preventing a heat resistant belt from floating from a thermal fixing roll and stabilizing a nip part between the thermal fixing roll and a pressure roll with simple constitution, thereby forming a uniform stable fixing nip. SOLUTION: The fixing device is equipped with: the thermal fixing roll 1; the pressure roll 2 pressed against the thermal fixing roll 1; sliding members 4 and 5 sliding with the rotation of the pressure roll 2; and the heat resistant belt 3 stretched and laid between the pressure roll 2 and the sliding members 4 and 5, and moving while it is held between the pressure roll 2 and the thermal fixing roll 1, and fixes an unfixed toner image formed on sheet material. The sliding members 4 and 5 are composed of a rigid body and formed to be thinner than the thickness of an elastic body with which the outer circumference of the thermal fixing roll 1 is covered, and an edge part 5d coming into contact with the heat resistant belt 3 and the pressure roll 2 in the nip part between the thermal fixing roll 1 and the pressure roll 2 is provided.
