PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent, as much as possible, contact between a core that tends to protrude from the tip end of an optical fiber and an optical element that is a connection target. SOLUTION: The optical element 18 is housed and arranged inside a shield case 32, is exposed outside through an optical coupling hole 32h formed in the shield case 32, and is optically coupled to the glass core 13 of an optical fiber 12. The length L1 of the optical coupling hole 32h is set at the dimension in which a distance L2 between the clad 14 end face of the optical fiber 12 and the optical coupling face 19a is maintained not shorter than an estimated maximum protruding length of the core 13 with respect to the optical fiber 12.
