PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetism quantity detecting type magnetic sensor apparatus capable of detecting a magnetic image such as a magnetic ink image or the like, which is drawn by a magnetic material, on the basis of the detection output corresponding to the magnetism quantity of the magnetic image and not lowered in its detection resolving power. SOLUTION: The magnetism quantity detecting type magnetic sensor apparatus 1 is composed of a magnetic sensor 3 having an MR element A and a resistor R connected to it and a permanent magnet 5 which imparts center magnetic line of force to the magnetic sensor 3 almost vertically with respect to a magnetic axis (q) and is positioned on the downstream side of the sensor 3 in relation to the travel direction of a medium wherein the direction of the center magnetic line of force coincides with the travel direction of paper money (p). The magnetic axis (q) of the magnetic sensor 3 is placed at a right angle with respect to the paper money (p) and the magnetic ink image of the paper money (p) passing so as to come into contact with the magnetic sensor 3 or to leave a narrow gap with respect to the magnetic sensor 3 is detected on the basis of the detection output corresponding to the magnetic quantity of the magnetic ink image.
