PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-contact mechanical seal in which a back pressure can be immediately detected, and the seal is prevented from being caught at the recovery from the back pressure into a normal condition and the maintenance such as disassembling after recovery is not necessary. SOLUTION: The non-contact mechanical seal is provided with a fixed O-ring 9 for sealing between a retainer 7 and a static seal ring 6, and a motion O-ring 10 for sealing a seal case CK and the retainer 7 so that the clearance between a rotation seal ring 5 and the static seal ring 6 is non-contact sealed by balancing the dynamic pressure by rotation and urging force of an elastic mechanism 8. The motion O-ring 10 is stored in an inner peripheral groove 11 of the seal case CK. A lateral peripheral groove 12 of the retainer 7 and a lateral protruding annular portion 13 of the static seal ring 6 inserted in the peripheral groove 12 are sealed by the fixed O-ring 9. A second lateral peripheral groove 15 is formed in the static seal ring 6 to fit a second lateral protruding annular portion 14 formed by a part of the lateral peripheral groove 12. Even when the retainer 7 approaches the nearest seal case side, the lateral protruding annular portion 14 and the second lateral peripheral groove 15 are maintained to fit.
