PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary damper which can reduce moment fluctuations by frictional force in the revolving initial stage of the shaft. SOLUTION: The rotary damper comprises a hollow housing 1, a revolving shaft 10 opposed to the housing 1 and at least one or more vanes 15 which demarcate a pair of operating chambers A, B in the housing 1 inside provided in the shaft 10 and in the grooves 21, 22, 23 provided in a side part perpendicular to the front edge and the shaft which have an interview with the housing 1 inner surface of the vane 15 and in the rotary damper in which the seal member S1 is accommodated, the side surface of the grooves 21, 22 is curved so as to enlarge the groove width to the vane front edge or the side surface of the seal member S2 is curved so that the width is narrower to the front edge of the vane.
