PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the optical resolution of an optical isomer mixture of a dihydrobenzofuran derivative or chroman derivative useful as e.g. an intermediate for producing pharmaceuticals, etc., into the respective optical isomers. SOLUTION: The method for the optical resolution of a compound(1a) comprises the step of making a compound(3) act on the compound(1a) to form a compound(4a), the step of separating the compound(4a) into the respective diastereomers to obtain the diastereomer(4-1) or (4-2), and the step of hydrolyzing the obtained diastereomer to obtain the aimed compound(1-1) or (1-2). In the formulas, R1 to R7 are each H or the like; A is a methylene group, ethylene group or the like; one of R13 and R14 is amino or the like, the other being H or the like; R15 to R19 are each H or the like; Q is a hydroxy group or eliminable group; and * denotes a chiral asymmetric carbon atom.
