<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a configuration for enhancing the color reproducibility of transmission display in a display using a color filter having a complementary color-based colored layer. <P>SOLUTION: An electrooptical device comprises an electrooptical unit having a display unit with three types of light transmission regions arranged by overlapping dichromatic colored layers in complementary color-based three colors; and an illumination unit that has luminous peaks Pr, Pb, Pg of primary color-based three colors and irradiates the electrooptical device with light.
