摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar lighting device and a liquid crystal display with improvement of brightness characteristics aimed at while restraining brightness unevenness. <P>SOLUTION: A diffusion sheet 18 is structured of an anisotropic diffusion layer (an anisotropic diffusion sheet) with a larger light diffusion angle in a direction (an X direction) parallel to a forming direction of prism grooves 12a, 12b than in a direction (a Y direction) vertical to a forming direction of prism grooves 12a, 12b of a deflection separation element 10. With this, a brightness unevenness restraining function and a brightness improvement function by the deflection separation element 10 can both be attained. The anisotropic diffusion layer 18 consists of convex- or concave-shaped micro lenses 18L with different cross-section curvatures in X and Y directions, with a major diameter direction (the Y direction) of its bottom face elliptical shape arranged vertical to the prism grooves 12a, 12b, and parallel with a linear light source 2 of a backlight unit 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
