<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel (PDP) drive unit which realizes further fine gradation of a PDP, while substantially maintaining the duration of shortest discharge maintenance period, without having to increase the circuit scale. <P>SOLUTION: A first discharge maintenance pulse voltage (P1) is applied to a scanning electrode (Y) of the PDP, and a second discharge maintenance pulse voltage (P2) is applied to a scanning electrode (X) of the PDP in the discharge maintenance period. When the luminance of the discharge cells of the PDP is set high, the phase difference between the first and second discharge maintenance pulse voltages (P1, P2) are substantially set equal to 180°. When the luminance of the discharge cells of the PDP is set low, the phase difference between the first and second discharge maintenance pulse voltages (P1, P2) are set to be smaller than 180°. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
