PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively setting an optical path by restricting the number of optical signals used for optical path setting.

SOLUTION: A transmitting node sets a wavelength set usable in the next link to a probe signal and transmits it to the next node. The probe signal reaches a receiving node by repeating update of the probe signal at each node which receives the probe signal and transmission of the probe signal to the next node. At the receiving node, wavelength used for the optical path is selected from wavelength information in the probe signal. The receiving node sets the selected wavelength to a reserve signal and transmits the reserve signal toward the transmitting node. A node in the middle which receives the reserve signal sets the optical path using the selected wavelength set in the reserve signal.
