PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material, having a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer with high sensitivity, low fog level and superior image quality stability, and capable of maintaining high sensitivity and low fog level, even after long-term storage, and to provide an image forming method. SOLUTION: The silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material contains a photosensitive emulsion, containing non-photosensitive aliphatic carboxylic acid silver salt particles and photosensitive silver halide grains, a reducing agent for silver ions, a binder and a crosslinking agent, wherein the photosensitive silver halide grains are surface latent image type grains in exposure and change into internal latent image type grains after heat development, and the photosensitive silver halide grains have a silver iodide content of≤40 mol% and are core/shell type grains, whose surface silver iodide content is lower than the internal silver iodide content.
