PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-supporting optical cable that prevents dancing, galloping and sleet jump of an optical cable installed along high-voltage cables in mountainous regions, that is free from damage due to birds and beasts, and that facilitates installation operation. SOLUTION: The self-supporting optical cable is structured by covering coated optical fibers (four-core coated optical fiber ribbon 21) with a metallic tube (stainless steel tube 22) in the circumference, filling a jelly 23 in the gap inside the metallic tube (stainless steel tube 22), and applying a plastic jacket 24 over this metallic tube 22. The optical cable so structured is then wound around a support line 10, which is a stranded steel wire 11 covered with a plastic jacket 12. The jelly has a consistency of 380-430 at 25°C, with the ratio of the outside diameter of the support line over that of the optical cable set in the range of 0.925-1.225, and with the winding pitch of the optical cable set at 50-100 cm of the outside diameter of the optical cable.
