PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely and fully shorten the time taken to detect focus. SOLUTION: The focus detection apparatus has photoelectric conversion parts (40 and 41) that apply photoelectric conversion to incident light and accumulate charge; first output means (42, 43, 46, 47, 48, 49, ChA and ChB) that output electrical signals, based on the charge accumulated in the photoelectric conversion means through multiple channels; and focus detection means (26 and 100) that detect the phase difference, on the basis of the electrical signals outputted from the plurality of channels.
