PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve transmission efficiency as to a transmitting method and a receiving method of transmitting signals from a plurality of antennas and receiving signals by the plurality of antennas, and a transmitting device, a receiving device and a communication system using them. SOLUTION: A pilot insertion section 78 inserts a known signal into some of a plurality of subcarriers for at least a Legacy preamble and data of a packet signal having a MIMO preamble and data arranged behind the Legacy preamble, a Legacy signal, and a MIMO signal to use a plurality of subcarriers respectively. The pilot insertion section 78 inserts the known signal into some of subcarriers of the Legacy signal so that the number of subcarriers of the MIMO signal arranged in a plurality of symbols is larger than the number of subcarriers corresponding to an unknown signal of the Legacy signal.
