PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope system which does not cause an extreme imbalance in the intensity distribution of light emitted from the tip of the light guide even by the adoption of a structure which makes light converge on a diameter smaller than the diameter of a light guide on the base end of the light guide. SOLUTION: In the endoscope system, a system control circuit 214 rotates a dichroic mirror 300 and a mirror holding frame 321 within the range of rotation of the dichroic mirror 300 and the mirror holding frame 321 to ensure that an imbalance in the intensity distribution of excitation light emitted from the tip of the light guide 16 is minimized.
