PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a three-electrode plane discharge system AC type PDP that can attain higher definition. SOLUTION: A row electrode X1 as a constituent of a row electrode pair (X1, Y1) is formed on an inner face of a front glass substrate 10, and a row electrode Y1 is formed on an inner face of a rear glass substrate 12, a protruded electrode X1b of the row electrode X1 and a protruded electrode Y1b of the row electrode Y1 set opposed to each other through a discharge cell C1. Each discharge cell C1 is zoned by nearly frame-like barrier ribs formed between the front glass substrate 10 and the rear glass substrate 12, and phosphor layers 16 divided in red, green, and blue colors are formed on side wall faces of the barrier ribs 15 surrounding the discharge cell C1.
