PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display necessary information for fuel-efficient driving in a way that is recognizable to a driver. SOLUTION: This vehicle operating status display includes an operating status detectors 1, 2 and 3 for detecting an engine operating status, an engine fuel efficiency determination device 4a which determines, according to the detected value of the operating status detectors 1, 2 and 3, which area the present traveling status belongs to, a fuel-efficient area, a bad mileage area or a boundary area situated between these two areas, preliminary set in accordance with the engine operating characteristics, a transmission fuel efficiency determination means 4b which determines, according to the detected value of the operating status detectors 1, 2 and 3, which area the present traveling status belongs to, a fuel efficiency area, a bad mileage area or a boundary area situated between these two areas, preliminary set in accordance with transmission efficiency characteristics of the transmission, and an indicating lamp 6 for indicating the present traveling status to the driver. Thus the indicating lamp 6 turns on, off and on and off the light, according to the determination content of the engine fuel efficiency determination means 4a and the transmission fuel efficiency determination means 4b.
