PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless lamp system in which a magnetron momentarily receives a high electric power by pulse driving to generate electromagnetic wave, and the plasma state of a valve is repeatedly activated by the generated electromagnetic wave to improve light efficiency, and its control method. SOLUTION: The electrodeless lamp system includes a storage unit 48 for storing a duty cycle of first and second switching signals using a substance in a valve by experiment, a control unit 44 for detecting the optimal duty cycle from the storage unit and outputting the first and second switching signals having the same phase corresponding to the detected duty cycle, and a conversion unit 43 for converting a DC voltage to an AC voltage having a positive rectangular wave and a negative rectangular wave.
