PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance possibility of accurate recognition of a road along which a vehicle travels by increasing an opportunity for determining whether the present position of the vehicle is on an ordinary road or on a highway. SOLUTION: It can be determined whether the present position of the vehicle is on an ordinary road or on a highway, based on the fact whether an ordinary road specification image for specifying that the vehicle is traveling along the ordinary road or a highway specification image for specifying that the vehicle is traveling along the highway is included in an image around the vehicle photographed by a camera 80, or not. Thus, the opportunity for determining whether the present position of the vehicle is on an ordinary road or on a highway can be increased.
